Purpose: To learn the basics of computers (windows on, icons, system tray, shut down, restart, sleep and task bar).

Desktop computer or laptop computer.

Prior Knowledge

Students should know:

  • How to switch a computer on and off.
  • How to operate the mouse and keyboard.

    Exercise 1



      1. Explain: windows on, icons, system tray, shut down, restart, sleep and task bar.

    • How do you turn on the computer?
    • What is an icon? Why do we use icons?
    • Find the time and date in the system tray.
    • Shut down the computer through Windows, and also use the shortcut key (Alt + F4) to shut down your computer.
    • Restart the computer using the task bar.
    • Put your system into sleep mode.
    • What will you see in the task bar if many applications are open?
